Overhearing private detective Jeff Randall (Mike Pratt) discuss a case with his
dead partner Marty Hopkirk (Kenneth Cope) - he's actually a ghost only Jeff
can see - Jeannie (Annette Andre) - Marty's widow - & her sister Jenny
(Judith Arthy) think it best to have him committed into doctor Lambert's
(Gerald Flood) mental asylum, where he undergoes hypnotic therapy with doctor
Conrad (David Bauer) - which is just as well, since doc Conrad does use his
hypnotic abilities to rob his rich patients with the help of robber/conman
William Smart (Patrick Jordan).
When Marty - thanks to his invisibility - finds that out though, &
wantsw to warn Jeff, he also has to learn that Jeff, under hypnosis, totally
ignores him, leaving him rather helpless ... until he has the idea to bring
Jeff under his spell by imitating Conrad's voice, guiding him through some
brawls & putting an end to the robberies, & to Conrad's evil schemes.
When police inspector Nelson (Michael Griffiths) finally arrives on the
scene to arrest Conrad, Jeff claims his committment to the asylum was just a
trick to get his hands on the evil doc.
Not a terribly original episode - robbery via hypnotism was a 60's tv series
mainstay -, it is not all unfunny either. The finale, where Marty controls
Jeff's fighting via Conrad's voice is way too long for being based on one joke
only though, tends to get tiring & is not at all helped by the fact that
Mike Pratt is not even half as funny as he's supposed to be.
