The whole world's under lockdown because of a virus, and everybody's
... pretty bored, really - including the powerful demon Azark Nephemore
Razide of Malkuth (Edward X. Young). So he does what basically everyone
does, surf the internet in hopes to find an app to kill some time - like
the Take My Breath Away-app, that's really up Azark's alley as it's
all about meeting people in chatrooms and making them say "Take My
Breat Away", upon which they die - for real. And Azark's quite good
at it, too, basically because as a demon he doesn't feel above fielding
the very young and the very stupid, while he's not that good at dealing
with those who don't fall for his very primitive tricks. And maybe, just
maybe, he doesn't know quite as much about tricking humans as he ought to
... A film made remotely during the worldwide Corona-lockdown, Take
My Breath Away of course suffers from some of the shortcomings that
naturally come with this style of filmmaking - but it's also a testament
to creativity, even under adverse circumstances, and to resilience among
the creative community as such, including the young ones. And that all
said, Take My Breath Away is also a pretty hilarious movie, a dark
satire about internet predators rolled into a light-footed supernatural
comedy, carried by a well-structured script and some very solid
performances. A very entertaining ride for sure.
