After Costello (Miha Baloh) and his gang have robbed a gold transport,
Johnny Peters (Hans Heyde) takes off with the loot on his own, but when
his accomplices catch up with him again and shoot him dead - since they
have found out he was an FBI agant -, the gold is nowhere to be
found. Costello is actually arrested after killing Peters, but is soon
freed again - by Davis' men, and Davis (Horst Naumann), Costello's direct
competition, is convinced Costello knows where the gold is ... thing is of
course, Costello doesn't, but he gets away from Davis' men and treats
himself to a plastic surgery to evade both Davis and the police, and then
he goes after Cindy Holden (Heidy Bohlen), Peters' girlfriend who he
thinks knows where the loot is hidden ... which she doesn't either, but
Peters has engraved the location on the key to her appartment ... Enter
Jerry Cotton (George Nader), who is eager to track Peters' killers down,
since he was a personal friend of his and a fellow FBI agent, and who
besides that wants to guard Cindy's life and get the gold back - and to
achieve that, Cotton even goes so far as to pose as Costello himself
occasionally ... which eventually gets him imprisoned by Davis' men too,
but nothing he can't handle. Add to all of this Davis' nosey niece
(Michaela May), the only person Davis cares about and will eventually lose
his life for, his over-eager butler (Herbert Fux), much dockside action
and Costello killed by his own greed at the end, and you know pretty much
what to expect. Ok last entry into the Jerry Cotton
series that might feature a somewhat over-convoluted plot and exterior
shots done in Germany that don't always match the establishing shots done
in New York, but it also features plenty of action, shoot outs and chases
to be at least entertaining - though earlier entries are way funnier (if
unintentionally so) than this one.
