Humankind has only just been struck with Covid 19 and murder hornets
when it has to face its biggest threat yet, an alien invasion, and not
just any alien invasion either, but one that's led by giant toxic alien
zombie babes that shoot laser beams from their tits exclusively right in
the balls of earth men. At first, politicians in all countries try to deny
there even is an alien threat, and when it's no longer deniable, to
downplay the situation, but it's all too obvious the thing has long spun
out of control and might just as well mean the end of humankind ... Now
Toxic Alien Zombie Babes from Outer Space is nothing if not
ambitious, and is for that alone already commendable: It was filmed under
Australia's rather strict Covid lockdown conditions, yet looks nothing
like your usual lockdown film, many of which look like exactly what they
are, recorded zoom calls. For this film however, writer/producer David
Black had filmmakers from (quite literally) all over the world contribute
scenes, had everything enhanced with quite elaborate special effects, and
went for big scope. And mostly, the result's actually pretty impressive,
always taking into account this is still a low budget film, but it does
feature a cast of hundreds, impressive locations, and shows plenty of
variety. And frankly, this doesn't always work for the movie, as sometimes
it lacks its narrative anchor or any actual protagonists. But that said,
the film's also lots of fun, with the humour ranging from fine satire to
fart jokes, and as a fan of old school science fiction, one still finds
much to love about this movie. So maybe this is not perfect - but still
very enjoyable. And if this review has gotten you at all
interested, and you live in Melbourne, Toxic
Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space will be showing on Sunday the 18th of
September at 11:00PM on Channel 31. More TV playdates are likely to follow, too.
