Milo (Pierre Cressoy) has just killed the king of Mykenas & blamed it all on rebels, which nobody really believes, so upon his return, the populace tries to revolt, but he has a magic blade that, when removed from its shaft, makes a handful of Golden soldiers appear who unrelentlessly beat up everyone in their way - a gift from his mother, a witch (Moira Orfei).

But Milo is no fool & doesn't try to take over the kingdom just like that, instead he lets nighbouring noblemen fight for the hand & land of the deceased king's daughter Ate (Marilů Tolo), confident that his right hand man Gordio (Piero Lulli) will win, whom he together with Ate will kill afterwards in an accident to finally get his hands on the throne.

But what he hasn't taken into account is that the rebels have called in Hercules (Dan Vadis), & Hercules , a childhood friend of Ate, doesn't only fight for her hand & ultimately defeat Gordio, he also saves hmself & Ate from teh trap Milo has originally set up for Gordio & Ate. So Milo decides to change strategy, has Ate abducted & persuades Hercules that the rebels have kidnapped her. Hercules, believes every word of it, heads for the rebels' hide-out, pretty much tears it down &, when questioning their leader about Ate, accidently kills him.

Hercules' father, the god Zeus is very unhappy about that & decides to strip him of his supernatural powers ... Hercules has meanwhile found out it was all a foul trick of Milo though, & - ignorant of his drained powers - wants to fight him & his mighty army single-handedly ... but is soon overcome & thrown into the dungeon.

Later, Milo wants to execute Hercules & Ate in the arena, & he makes it dependent from Hercules now very natural powers of how long Ate will live ... but he hasn't taken into account that the people of Mykenas will not accept that & start a revolt, & that Zeus, when Hercules pleas for the life of Ate, will have second thoughts & restore Hercules' supernatural powers ...

So in the end, Milo is overthrown &, together with his golden warriors killed in a landslide, while his mother the witch tries to get Hercules to save her, having taken the form of Ate, but when Hercules looks into her eyes, he fails to see Ate's innocence & lets her fall off a cliff into her watery grave.

Il Trionfo di Ercole, produced towards the tail-end of the muscleman-peplum-boom, does take pretty little care in mythological accuracy, instead has its muscleman hero thrown into a colourful fairytale plot of beautiful princesses who are fought over, evil witches, black magic & the wonderful golden warriors, all done in a delightfully cheapish way, with rather meager sets (much of the plot takes place in a pretty unconvincing & pretty small arena) & second rate actors (especially Dan Vadis' performance as Hercules almost borders the bizarre).

On a trashy level, it is pure, childish entertainment though.
