Edmond (Booth Colman) is left by his girlfriend Marie (Roxane Berard),
who is going to marry, of all people, his publisher Montcour (Leo Penn) -
but as a good-bye present, she gives him a crystal ball, a crystal ball
that surprisingly (and without her knowledge, lets him watch each and
every of her moves. Eventually, Montcour goes on a trip and, believing
they are still good friends, places Marie in Edmond's care. She however
rather pays visits to her new lover Philippe (Albert Carrier) - and when
Montcour comes back from his trip early and doesn't find his wife at home
where she's supposed to be, he comes to the (very correct) conclusion that
she's cheating on him, but believes her affair to be Edmond. Edmond
however leads Montcour to the place where Marie is having fun with her
lover and ... nothing end, the story ends here and we are only informed
that Marie and Montcour later got a divorce on the basis of what was
revealed by the crystal ball. Boris Karloff has an extended but rather
unnecessary guest role as Edmond's playboy uncle. An
interesting plot spoiled by a flawed screenplay that is really building up
suspense - to in the end let the audience down with a rather non-existent
finale. Bad dialogue by the way doesn't help much either.
