Sasha's (Shailene Garnett) pregnant and also overworked of late, so her
boyfriend (and her unborn's father) Darren (Emidio Lopes) decides to whisk
her away for a weekiend to a cabin deep in the middle of nowhere far
away from any cellphone signal let alone wifi, for a couple of relaxation
- oh, and romance, since he wants to propose to her. Thing is, as nice as
the place is, the warm water doesn't work, and when Darren calls the
place's actual owner, Eric (Emmanuel Kabongo), who fixes the problem in a
matter of minutes, he sees himself almost force to invite him and his
girlfriend Millie (Brianna Goldie) for dinner. And the dinner goes really
well as the four of them get along rather nicely ... until Sasha drops
that she's pregnant, something that doesn't sit well with Eric and his low
spermcount. But there's more to it, as Sasha's actually Eric's ex
(something she has never told Darren), and she lost his baby back when.
And now, Eric wants revenge, and violently so ... Welcome
might not be the re-invention of the wheel, but it's a pretty good
thriller, one that has all the suspence and jump scares in all the right
paces, and plenty of plottwists to keep one engaged throughout. And add to
that a genre-savvy direction and a very solid ensemble cast playing well
fleshed out characters and you've got yourself a pretty cool piece of
genre cinema for sure.
