She (Aniela McGuinness) is a rape victim who has never really gotten
over it, especially since her rapist was never punished for his crime. He
(Todd Bruno) is an Iraq veteran suffering from PTSD who suffers fits of
rage that might lead to violent outbursts. But he really cares for her, so
the two of them have kidnapped the rapist (Mike Stanley), and now He wants
to torture a confession out of him, using persuasion techniques he has
learned in Iraq. Unfortunately, the rapist isn't very cooperative and
insists he has never laid eyes on Her let alone raped her - which drives
Him mad enough that he smashes the rapist's knee-cap and cuts off one of
his feet. The problem though is that He starts to doubt Her story, which
contradicts itself more and more the more he tries to get to the bottom of
things. And then there are two dead bodies wrapped up in the basement He
and She accuse one another of putting there. So naturally, the situation
gets a little complicated, also helped that the rapist, crippled as he is,
isn't at the end of his resources ... By and large,
rape-and-revenge movies follow a very simple pattern that's already (not
very well) hidden in the label "rape-and-revenge" - but 3,
while at first seemingly follow the formula to the letter, manages to take
a different turn somewhere along the way, a turn that takes things onto an
unexpected downward spiral that still makes sense thanks to clever writing
and a believable and relateable cast. And as a director, Lou Simon really
knows when to shock, when to create suspense, and when to go visceral to
keep the audience on the edge of their seats pretty much throughout. Well
worth a watch!
