Brisco (Bruce Campbell) and Bowler (Julius Carry) stumble upon orphan
siblings Tommy (Michael Cade) and Shannon (Mercedes McNab), who try to
make it from Brooklyn, NY, to San Francisco without a penny to their name
as they expect a vast inheritance, but they're afraid they won't make it
in time and Wolfe (Sam Anderson), head of their orphanage, will steal
their inheritance away from them under a pretense. So Brisco contacts his
lawyer employer Socrates Poole (Christian Clemenson) to stall Wolfe - but
that soon proves unnecessary as Wolfe's shot dead by a gang of Irish
gangsters from Brooklyn (dubbed the johnnies) led by Monahan (Clark
Heathcliff Brolly) who of course want to get their hands on the
inheritance. Now Brisco and Bowler try to get the orphans to San
Francisco, but that's a bigger problem than expected as Tommy's a bit of a
hothead who doesn't take advice very well, even if it's for his own good,
and he eventually falls for Monahan's evil scheme. Of course, eventually
Brisco and Bowler set all the wrongs right again, and Socrates Poole
provides the perfect happy ending by re-uniting the kids with their
long-lost mother (Devon O'Brien). Now this episode is good
where the series in general is good at, and that's basically Bruce
Campbell, Julius Carry and Christian Clemenson's performances and
chemistry, and the comedy one has come to expect. But the story of Brisco
and Bowler helping two orphans in a story that could be straight out of
Dickens is really a bit much to swallow, making this not one of the better
episodes of the Adventures of Brisco County jr, it's just a
bit too steeped in kitsh and tired clichés.
