It's the wake of Ash's (Bruce Campbell) new-found daughter Brandy's (Arielle Carver-O'Neill)
mother (Katrina Hobbs), and saying good bye to her Ash has to realize her
head has been sewn back on - so naturally she turns into a deadite, and
while Ash manages to decapitate her, he somehow gets stuck in her coffin,
from where he emerges only at the funeral, to everyone's shock. Brandy
decides to give Ash yet another chance, so Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless)
decides to raise Ash's father Brock (Lee Majors) from the dead to get
friendly with the girl and provoke Ash into killing him before the eyes of
his daughter - which then really does the trick to drive her away ... On
a sidequest, Ash's sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana
DeLorenzo), along with new guy Dalton (Lindsay Farris), go to the ruins of
the cabin that started it all to unearth the Kandarian dagger, the one
weapon that can destroy immortal Ruby. Good news, they find it. Bad news,
Dalton turns into a deadite ... Another season three episode
that doesn't really do the trick and feels more like a monster-of-the-week
kind of story, especially since the two narrative strands of the episode
are barely related and once again the team is broken up. Plus, Ash isn't
as bad in his decision making anymore and comes off more like a proper
hero than a(n intentionally) bad 80s action hero parody. Sure, there's
still slapstick involved in his fights, but it seems more by-the-numbers
than in the first two seasons. Also, as a whole the episode lacks in
urgency, which is a sort of pity really.
