Used car salesman Teddy (Thayer Cranor) is deeply in love with
underaged Daphne (Shauna Nunn) ... but the problem is, he's still married
to Angela (Morgan Cooper), who when she finds out about his affair throws
him out of their home, forcing him to stay in his nudist friend's (JC)
trailer, and he threatens a messy divorce - so Teddy decides to put out a
hit on her. But the hitman (Victor Godfrey) he hires is run over by a car
and killed when crossing the street to Teddy's home. After much to and
fro, Angela decides to give Teddy a second chance. He offers her bubblegum
as sort of a token for their reconciliation - on which she chokes and
dies. Now knowing the police, and especially over-ambitious (and overly
violent) Detective Howard (Michael Nieto) will suspect him to have
murdered her, he skips town with Daphne, and fortunately they manage to
hitch a ride with Upchuck (Furly Travis) - because with all the cars in
the used car lot, Teddy doesn't have one of his own. Bad thing is, Upchuck
is a serial killer who eventually strangles Daphne to death - and this is
where Teddy's troubles only begin ... Now if you're looking for
technical finesse in this one, you've come to the wrong place, as this one
was shot on old VHS and looks it. On top of this, not much effort was put
into realism, quite the contrary - best evidenced in Teddy's very
unconvincing wig and fake sideburns. But both works for the movie here, as
it gives it a very otherworldly retro feel - plus it goes very well with
the humour of the movie that's anything but sophisticated. Actually it's
rather crude and has some bathroom quality to it. But there's strategy to
this, as everything works well together in this totally over-the-top soap
opera/thriller hybrid where everything is exaggerated to the hilt,
but to an extent where it becomes hilarious again. And one might say this
is a bit of a forced so-bad-it's-good movie - but forced or not, it really
works out in a highly entertaining way.
