A woman is found murdered, and of course, Captain Gregson (Aidan Quinn)
calls in Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Watson (Lucy Liu) for
assistance, even if the investigating detective Bell (Jon Michael Hill) is
less than pleased. But Holmes is quick to acquit the prime suspect, a
neighbour of the victim, of the crime, and deduces the murderer must have
been a woman - of which he soon enough gets a detailed description, and
also soon enough, he finds out her identity, Yvette Ellison (Amy Landon)
... and she's been in a coma for three days now. Sure, she has a twin
sister, Rebecca (Jennifer Ferrin), but they are fraternal twins and look
nothing alike. Then another murder happens, following the same m.o., and
when investigating the two victims background, Holmes finds out they were
both illegitimate children of Yvette and Rebecca's crazy rich dad - so
according to Holmes' deductions it had to be either Yvette or Rebecca, who
wanted to guard their inheritance ... but Yvette's in a coma, and for
Rebecca to dress up as Yvette for the first murder (at least) wouldn't
make any sense at all. Having painted himself into a corner though, Holmes
loses it, turns up in hospital where Rebecca's visiting her sister to
accuse her of murder and to tell her about another illegitimate child of
their father, knocks out Detective Bell who has come after him, and lands
in jail for it ... but of course, the third illegitimate child was only a
hoax to catch the real killer - Yvette. But how could she have faked her
own coma? What goes for the pilot
episode also goes for this one: Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu make
a great Holmes and Watson - but again they have to fight themselves
through a story that's way too forced, convoluted and overly constructed,
and Holmes' deductions at times defy logic. That said, the show as such is
still entertaining enough due to its leads, one just wishes they had been
given better scripts.
