Scientist Yoshioka (Joji Tsurumi) is to give proof of the existence of
the man-sized caterpillar Dokugander as witnessed last
episode to a bunch of journalist, but for some reason, all
evidence has disappeared, and what's more, his teacher, Professor Koizumi
(Kosuke Nono), who was believed to be killed by Dokugander, shows up very
much alive and pretty much calls Yoshioka a liar in front of the
reporters. And yet, Yoshioka is more than happy to demonstrate his latest
growth agent to speed up development of insect cocoons to Professor
Koizumi, who then invites him to his "secret lab", and
apparently Yoshioka doesn't suspect any Shocker foul play at all.
Hayato/Kamen Rider (Takeshi Sasaki) and FBI agent Kazuya (Jiro Chiba) do
though and they want to race to Yoshioka's rescue but are stopped by
Dokugander, who emerges from his cocoon right in front of our heroes,
being some winged insect creature with the ability of flight, and he
delays Hayato and Kazuya just long enough for Shocker agents to kidnap
Yoshioka. Shocker want to force him to develop his growth agent further to
speed up the development of Dokugander cocoons as they want to conquer the
world with an army of Dokuganders, but ultimately Yoshioka destroys the
cocoons instead. In the meantime, Shocker try to kidnap Yoshioka's
daughter Miki (Hiroko Ikeda) but fail thanks to Kamen Rider and friends,
and ultimately Kamen Rider not only manages to free Yoshioka but also to
defeat Dokugander in a one-on-one fight, and ultimately Dokugander drops
out of the skies into a building that explodes upon impact. Storywise,
this episode has little new to offer, it just mixes up tried-and-true
story elements a bit for an episode that's pretty standard and not very
exciting due to the predictability of its script. What's kind of memorable
about this entry though is how abstract the fights appear to be. There's
lots of leaping into the air, sommersaults and backflips just thrown into
the fight scenes willy-nilly, some very unnecessary flying around, and
actually little in terms of actual punches. It really stands to reason
whether this is actually bad fight choreography and/or editing, or
actually someone having a laugh - and my bet's actually on the latter.
