Princess Narda (Lisa Howard), beautiful assistant to stage illusionist
and hypnotist Mandrake (Coe Norton), is kidnapped after one of his shows
by one Mr Brown (Carl Frank), who actually uses her as bait for Mandrake.
You see, Brown is an enemy agent, and he's desperately trying to locate
counter-intelligence agent Edwards to get some vital information out of
him. Thing is, he has no idea where Edwards or his hideout is located. He
has tried to torture the location out of Edwards' aide Wilson (Robert
Ellenstein), but to no avail - and now he needs the hypnotic powers of
Mandrake to get the truth out of Wilson nevertheless. Mandrake, wanting to
save Princess Narda, gets the information out of Wilson, but as a thank
you he and Narda get thrown into a dungeon while Brown and company go on
the prowl. Fortunately though, Lothar (Woody Strode), Mandrake's African
native assistant, has followed him from a distance and manages to find
Mandrake and Narda and save them from the dungeon. Then they go after
Brown and catch up with and defeat him right when he's about to do some
harm to Edwards ... Failed TV pilot that has quite a few points
going for it, like the lead character's aura of mystery, or a very
colourful cast of principals, but at the end of the day, this episode was
probably just a bit too lacking in action, tension and suspense to really
catch up with contemporary audiences and be turned into a series. Not a
big loss here, even if this pilot episode is somewhat entertaining.
