Jason (Ryan Carter) runs out on his girlfriend Diane (Ella Palmer), and
in his desparation he heads into a nearby forest, soon having to realize
this forest isn't all it appeared to be as it's apparently teeming with
ghosts - but what are these ghosts, restless souls out to haunt or to get
him, or figments of his own imagination, maybe even results of his own
guilt? And why, when Diane finally catches up with him, does an evil
version of himself jump out of the shrubbery to butcher her? Narratively,
this movie isn't always easy to follow as it has a rather experimental
touch to it, often uses associative rather than stringent storytelling,
and the relative lack of dialogue also doesn't help - but all this works
for the movie here, as it's really more of a (sometimes very violent) mood
piece than a story-driven flick, and thus concentrates on atmosphere in
both images and soundscape, and has its genuinely creepy moments while
clearly following the logic of a nightmare - which is great fuel for good
horror.
