Treasure Chest of Horrors III - in a few words, what is it about?

Treasure Chest of Horrors III is an anthology film about two sibilings that find their uncles treasure chest of old VHS movies. Not only are the movies in the anthology and in the chest completely insane but they also are violently delicious.

You have produced quite a few anthology movies over the past two or so years - so why another one, and how did the project get off the ground?

It was always our intention to do 3 Treasure Chest of Horrors-films. I always liked the idea of a trilogy. Each installment has acutally been better than the last, which I think is really fantastic. We began production on III while II was finishing up post production.

In addition to Treasure Chest-regulars Doug Waugh [Doug Waugh interview - click here] and Shawn C. Phillips [Shawn C. Phillips interview - click here], Treasure Chest of Horrors III features quite a few directors new to the series - could you talk about the new faces for a bit, and why exactly these people?

Well I am very excited to be working with Shane Ryan [Shane Ryan interview - click here] on this one. I was a big fan of the Amateur Porn Star Killer films and think Shane is an amazing talent. We became friends so naturally I asked him if he wanted to get involved. He obliged. He has a film in bothTreasure Chest of Horrors III and Theatre of the Deranged II which is awesome.

As for James J. Coker, I guess something is to be said about talking shit about me. The kid was talking shit about me and my movie My Pure Joy on the forum of Dread Central, so I contacted him. He mentioned that he had made a short film and so I asked to watch it, and Lo and behold I ended up loving it and putting it in Treasure Chest of Horrors III. Interesting way to get on my radar I guess. Him and I are very good friends.

As for the Cousin Brothers, they are an interesting group of people. I don’t know too much about them and they haven't really been very talkative but they gave us their movie for the anthology out of nowhere. I thought it felt realistic so I put it in the film. Haven't really heard from them since to be honest. Kinda strange if you ask me.

Tara Emerson, who wrote one of the shorts and also starred in and EP’d it had worked on a short film with my father. She showed me her short film and I just loved it and her energy and had to get it involved somehow.

With that many directors under one roof who seem to come from all corners of the horror genre, how easy/difficult was it to keep all of them in line with the overall tone of the series?

We gave them all a complete run of insanity. They weren’t given any limitations. They all just went crazy and made whatever they felt was best.

In terms of story, the first two Treasure Chest of Horrors-movies were all over the place regarding their segments - so what can you tell us about the individual segments of Treasure Chest of Horrors III? And how much of a say did you have in choosing the particular segments?

I had an acquisitions team helping decide which shorts to put into this one, comprised of Doug Waugh [Doug Waugh interview - click here] and JD Fairman [JD Fairman interview - click here]. I think they did a great job. I love how wildly different each short is.

Anything you can tell us about Treasure Chest of Horrors III's cast?

They are all lovely people doing lovely things. Very happy to have had all of them involved in this film and to have them donate their time. We have some interesting faces in there, namely Dennis Haskins, who is Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell, as well as JD Fairman from My Pure Joy, Shane Ryan, and of course the usual suspects.

Treasure Chest of Horrors III is supposed to be the last film of the series. To put it bluntly, why?

It was always the intention to have a trilogy. We may do more anthologies, with different titles, but this will lay to rest the Treasure Chest of Horrors-series.

Any future projects you'd like to talk about?

There are a few I would like to talk about but sadly I am not allowed to. Also check out Hate Crime and To Jennifer when you can.
