Margie (Rachel Nielsen) is a genius young meteorologist who might just
have invented a machine that might neutralize tornadoes - but due to her
penchant for perfection she might just never test it if it wasn't for
fellow meteorologist Bobbi (Shelby Hightower), a woman who lives in the
here and now, and when she spots a funnel storm in the area, she would
never have the self confidence to test it. And hey, their experiment
proves to be successful, too - there's just the problem that they've run
into two bankrobbers (Graham Wolfe, Xavier Michael) who have after a
successful heist got their money funnelled off by the storm and now want
to seize the girls' machine to get it back. And there's also this
influencer (Rachel Aspen) getting into everybody's way because she fails
to grasp the scope of the situation, and so it doesn't take long before a
shot is fired ... Now this is basically Sharknado,
with money replacing sharks - and it's a whole lot funnier, too - and that
said, I don't by any means want to say Cash Storm is in any way
derivative of the earlier movie, as actually it isn't, it's just based on
a similarly silly premise involving twisters. Thing is, Cash Storm
never leaves any doubt about the idiocy of its premise, but doesn't let
that prevent it to get a pretty solid story out of it. And while the
film's full of genre tropes, it subverts them playfully and plays the
whole thing for laughs without ever going full moronic. To put it another
way, this might be a tad silly - but it's also a lot of fun, just a really
entertaining disaster movie comedy/parody.
