Now here's a documentary that's just bound to set incredibly well with
horror fans, as it covers grindhouse genre features from the 1970s and
80s, from just before the business went to home video. And the features
covered (with at least part of their trailers played as a bonus) are
really worth one's while, from now acknowledged classics like The
Crazies, I Spit on Your
Grave, Texas
Chainsaw Massacre, Basket Case
and The Re-Animator to films
that strike more of a chord with the cult crowd, including Don't
Look in the Basement, Slumber Party Massacre, Halloween
3: Season of the Witch, Microwave Massacre, Spookies, Street
Trash, Blood Diner and more - with at least one interviewee
for each entry, from horror icon Lynn Lowry to legendary scream queen
Brinke Stevens to Mr. Basket Case Kevin Van Hentenryck to screenwriting
legend John A. Russo, and many more. And while it's true that the film as
a whole lacks an actual overall narrative, the many cool anecdotes told
about each and every about above movies make it a must-have for any
self-respecting horror fan.
