22 years ago, during a film shoot, the lead actor, Gardel (Jose
Coronado) has gone missing, and even though his body has never been found,
he has at long last been officially declared dead. Now, with a
retrospective of the actor's work on the way, Miguel (Manolo Solo),
director of Gardel's last, unfinished film, goes on a search to find out
what has actually happened to Gardel, and after many a false start, finds
the actor alive but amnesiac, in the care of nuns at a monastery.
Everybody there has pretty much given up hope on him ever regaining his
memory, but Miguel figures him seeing his own last movie might just do the
trick ... So ok, there's not much happening in this movie, and
at almost 3 hours, it admittedly goes on a little too long - but it's a
fascinating movie still, thanks to its rich cinematic language, its very
calm tone, and some very strong performances. Now sure, it does take a
little patience to watch this movie, but it's a rewarding experience all
the same.
