After an evening of celebrating her birthday, Tasha (Victoria Vertuga) and Dean (Danell Levya) arrive at the lodge they plan to spend the weekend in - with a badly injured jogger (Brandon Tyler Jones) in the trunk. While she wants to call the police, he's not so sure about this, and when the jogger identifies them as the ones who have run him over, Dean stabs him to death. Tasha is predictably shocked, but as she was the one who was actually driving, and under the influence, too, she sees his reasoning - and so the two go to bury the body of the jogger. Once back to the lodge, they receive the visit of a young woman, Briar (Jamie Bernadette), who claims she's followed. Dean wants to throw her out, but then Briar reveals she has seen him and Tasha bury a body - so suddenly they find themselves at Briar's mercy. What's somewhat disturbing is that she tells them that buried bodies don't stay buried for very long in these parts. And she's convincing enough for Dean to check on the jogger's body - who it turns out has risen from his grave and is walking around, for Dean to decapitate him and bury him again. Meanwhile back at the lodge, Briar starts to act weirder and weirder, ultimately convinces Tasha she'll go to the police and report them burying the jogger, and pretty much begs Tasha to strangle her - which Tasha does, much to her own surprise. To a degree, it seems problem solved - but instead things go a lot weirder from there ...

Cold Blows the Wind is above all a really fun horror film: For one, the plot's really original, and in places where it feels far-fetched, that's made up with plenty of irony. On the other hand, the film's filled with plenty of poignant dialogue that's delivered just as poignantly to really keep the audience entertained throughout. And on the third hand, the small ensemble really delivers and carries the movie rather beautifully. And a genre-savvy directorial effort that never misses a beat doesn't hurt one bit either, all of which is making this rather excellent genre entertainment.
