Vacationing at the seaside, Colonel March (Boris Karloff) of Scotland
Yard witnesses rich businessman Norman Kane (Lloyd Lamble) dying,
supposedly from a heart attack, and before there can be a proper
investigation, his body is washed away by the tide. Yet March has found a
needle in his body, shot by an air gun like the one his secretary Marion
(Patricia Marmont) was practicing with on the beach just minutes before
Kane's death, and when he interviews her, she soon gets caught up in
contradictions - suspicious contradictions to be sure, but not enough to
pin a murder on her. Then though the story gets turned onto its head when
the death that evolved into a murder turns out to never have happened but
was only a trick by Kane to take off with the money he has cheated his
stockholders out of ... but suddenly, his life is at risk again when his
own doctor (Robert Brown) tries to kill him - but of course, Colonel March
is a step or two ahead of everyone else and sees to it that all the
baddies get their just desserts. Rather badly written episode
of Colonel March of Scotland Yard that's just too convoluted to
really work and as a half-hour crime drama and contains way too many
plotholes at the same time. Apart from another solid performance by Boris
Karloff, this one actually has very little to offer.
