Japan at the times of World War II: The military police is trying to counteract all those who try to smash morale among the fighting forces and the populace as such by smoking out all pacifists, deserters and the like, even if it takes torture to track them down - and this is something that couldn't come handier to rich pervert Murayama (Minoru Okochi), who just loves to have young and pretty women in his basement to torture and humiliate them, to eventually get a confession - or not, to him it really doesn't matter much, and Lieutnant Nishizaki (Hirokazo Inoue) is properly paid for his services of choosing the right sort of woman to bring to Murayama's place.

Murayama's wife Kayo (Rei Okamoto) knows about all of this, gets turned on by his torture stories, and sometimes lets him tie up and whip her, just to feel close to him. She also reserves herself the right to make her husband's occasional male captives her sex slaves.

This time around, Murayama and Kayo seem to have hit the jackpot, Kimiko (Naomi Tani), a rich society lady Murayama has long had the hots for, and her maybe-lover Sennosuke (Tatsuya Hamaguchi), Kayo's favourite stage actor. And for a while there, things couldn't be better, Murayama tortures and humiliates Kimiko in whichever way possible, and Kayo lets Sennosuke fuck her brains out, always pretending to be on his side - and Sennosuke is naive enough never to see she's just luring him into trap after trap.

However, there's one wildcard in the game, Nishizaki's personal henchman, private Taoka (Kazuo Satake), who is at first disgusted by what he sees happening, but who soon becomes infatuated by Kimiko (and also by seeing her being tortured) that he becomes Murayama's willing accomplice ... but eventually, he helps her escape, even if that means to shoot Nishizaki dead in the process. Upon their escape, he and Kimiko spend a night in a shed, where Taoka brutally rapes Kimiko. The next day, the fugitives are tracked down by the military police, condemned to death and shot dead on the spot, and their bodies are burned ...

A by and large rather elegant S/M movie that by and large manages to deliver the goods (as in torture, nudity, sexual contents) within the context of an actual story that revolves around the subject as such and that puts as much effort into telling that story as it does into showing its acts of S/M, this way always keeping it a step or two above the smut-trap films of its ilk are likely to fall into. However, towards the ending, the whole thing falls apart a little, as the finale seems to be pulled out of the hat rather than properly developed, and a few scenes, especially the rape and its after-effects, lack dramatic depth.

Still, a rather interesting film, and one that S/M fans are almost sure to love ...
