These days, Frankie Abbott (David Barry, who had previously played the
role on the series Please
Sir! [1968 - '71] and The
Fenn Street Gang [1971 - '73]) is reduced to spend the rest of his
days in some kind of home, with his attractive young carer nurse Agnes
(Emma Dark) looking after his every need. But while his body might have
gotten on a bit, his mind has remained young and full of imagination - so
it's no wonder that he eventually dreams he's made the guest of
honour"of a vampire feast, attended besides nurse Agnes also by vamps
Clarissa Cobra (Caroline Munro) and Vera Vomit (Judy Matheson) besides
creepy psychiatrist Dr Spritzer (Martin Rudman) - and it takes him a while
to find out what "guest of honour" actually means to these
vampires ... In a way an ode to David Barry's most popular TV
character, Frankula will also entertain those who have never seen
his series of old thanks to Barry's own boyish charms and humour, the
film's lightfooted playing around with genre mainstays, and its cast
chock-full of veterans of British genre cinema and TV. It's one of those
movies that bears more than one viewing just to catch all the details for
sure.
