Julie (Marnette Patterson) and her friends want to shoot a documentary
about an allegedly haunted hotel - only to find out that the hotel actually is
haunted, haunted by Elizabeth (Ashly Rae), a woman who was tortured to
death by her husband (Chuck Zito) because she had a kid out of wedlock,
and her baby was killed as well. Before you know it, all of Julie's
friends are killed by Elizabeth, only she is spared, even though her
ancestor was directly responsible for Elizabeth's ordeal when betraying
her affair to her hubby. Turns out that Julie wears a locket around her
neck with a picture of Elizabeth's baby that seems to protect her, and she
thinks if she hands the locket over to Elizabeth, Elizabeth's soul will be
able to rest in peace ... but far from it, once Elizabeth wears the locket
around her neck, Julie is transported back in time to take Elizabeth's
place where her husband tortures her ... A horror flick blending
slasher and haunted house motives that has definitely got its moments, but
it also features a few too many narrative threads (from a graveyard scene
to much talk about the portals of hell) that lead to nowhere or are simply
abandoned, a directorial effort that shows good crafttmanship but little
in terms of inspiration, a cast that is not exactly exceptional, and a
finale that might be mean-spirited but it definitely lacks the punch it
should have had. All this doesn't make this movie a total turkey, rather a
very average horror flick that might not annoy you, but you'd be
hard-pressed to remember having seen it only a few days later.
