3 amateur ghosthunters (Shin
Kyung-sun, Yoon Yi-na, Jun In-kul) decide it's time to investigate one of
the country's most creepy places, a cookie factory that has been the scene
of a series of brutal murders, together with a trio of documentary
filmmakers (Lee Hwa-jung, Hyun Tae-ho, Shin So-yul). The site seems to be
positively creepy, too, but at first, nothing much seems to happen, at
least nothing creepy out of the ordinary (like a mirror cracking), and
that could have been set up by the filmmakers to spice up things. Btu then
things start to get physical, and it's usually Mee-jin (Yoon Yi-na) who
bears the brunt of the blow, being at one time pushed into a puddle that
might have been a murder scene, at another she even seems to be raped by a
ghost. Eventually, she does the sensible thing when she decides to leave -
but it's already too late, whatever presence is at the place has already
locked them in, and now starts to either kill or possess our explorers -
until Mee-jin is the last girl standing. But eventually, she soon has to
die (it seems). Did we really need another "found
footage" ghost movie in 2010? I seriously don't think so, and this
film does nothing to prove me wrong. Essentially, it's just your
run-of-the-mill ghost story that tries to be clever by giving us a
behind-the-scenes look at "documentary"-filmmaking ... but
within that gets dead-boring and seems to be there to pad out the
otherwise extremely feeble storyline, that is not at all helped by an
elaborate set-up of the backstory that has absolutely nothing to do with
the ghost attacks that happen later on, which in turn seem totally random
and oftentimes rather unintelligible (and thus pointless) in execution.
Add to this shaky camerawork that seems to substitute all atmosphere and
suspense, and paperthin characters, and you're left with ... well, very
little. Rather a waste of time!
