Grace (Emily Redpath) has just been left by her boyfriend Chris (Stuart
Wolfe-Murray), and to not have to be on her own, she decides to pay a
surprise visit to her best friend Liv (Sarah Alexandra Marks) and Liv's
boyfriend Ed (Louis James), who have only recently moved to the country -
after all, it's Ed's birthday, so a surprise visit is totally in order.
However, their relationship isn't going as well as it's supposed to, with
them two getting into arguments over everything the respective other says
- and Grace can't help but wondering whether she's not the cause of some
friction between them - after all, she did have sex with Ed the last time
she's been over. But she soon finds out things go deeper than that as she
notices the bruises all over Liv's body, obviously Ed's doing, and
eventually she persuades her to not only leave Ed but to also rob him
blind. But really, the issues all three of them are having go much deeper
than that ... A very nice thriller that's deliciously slowburn
in approach and yet manages to fill almost every scene with some kind of
unease, so that one expects an utlimate outburst almost as a natural
consequence - and yet, thanks to clever writing, the finale leads into a
very unexpected direction. And strong performances by the three leads
really carry that movie, while an atmosphere-heavy directorial effort sees
to it that the sense of undefined threat is palpable throughout, making
this pretty cool genre entertainment.
