Only very recently, actress Deborah (Dutch) got custody of her 16 year
old niece Anna (Angelica Drum Andrews) after that girl's parents were
killed in a car accident ... and she does her best to be the best
surrogate mum ever, and even if Anna finds it hard to adjust, she
appreciates her aunt's efforts. At the same time, Deborah also tries to
push her own acting career, and when she catches the attention of bigtime
Hollywood producer Girard Devereau (Edward X. Young), she's over the moon,
and promises to organize a big charity event for him. At the same time,
Deborah gets Anna help from the best psychiatrist in town, Dr. Morgana
(Debbie D), and tries to get Anna's music career started. So given the
circumstances, things couldn't be better, right? Dead wrong, actually,
as of late, teens have started to just disappear all over LA, with their
numbers going in the hundreds now, and whoever's kidnapping them, they
eventually get hold of Anna. And the people behind this are none other
than Dr. Morgana and Girard Devereau, the people Deborah trusted the most.
But Deborah isn't a mere woman - given powers by Goddess Athena (Deborah
Dutch as well) to combat evil on earth, she has become a mighty warrioress
with abilities by far exceeding those of mere mortals! Bad thing then that
neighter Girard Devereau nor Dr. Morgana are actually mere mortals but
demons from a dark corner of hell, and their powers might match if not
triumph over Deborah's ... Now I admit, if you watch Hollywood
Warrioress expecting a deep philosophical discussion of the movieworld
(or even the world as such), you'll be disappointed - but neither the
movie's title nor its cover art suggest as much, they suggest a fun ride
that's slightly sexy and full of action ... and that's what the movie
actually is, with some supernatural undercurrents only adding to its
attraction. But that's not to say the whole thing's a brainless affair
either, if you choose to listen carefully, you find plenty of satire in
this one about unsavoury Hollywood types, Hollywood propaganda and the
like, just without taking center stage. This is all helped by a great
ensemble cast headed by Deborah Dutch, whose brain child the movie was and
who gives her best performance to date (and impresses with some nice
swordsplay as well), and who's ably supported by Edward X. Young and
Debbie D who seem to relish playing the film's main baddies. And thanks to a light-footed
directorial effort that dares to consciously dive into campy bits if it
helps the movie, this movie's just
a hoot to watch!
