Major Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) promises his own private genie Jeannie
(Barbara Eden) to take care of the bully who hit her at the market - not
knowing of course that she was talking about the market in Baghdad from
2000 years ago, the bully who hit her was the rather over-sized Ali
(Richard Kiel), and by merely intending to defend her he has practically
agreed to marry her. And before he knows it, Tony is sold off at the slave
market, thrown into a dungeon because he spurned the advances of beautiful
Fatima (Pamela Curran), and his torturer turns out noone else but Ali.
Jeannie saves him from the torturer, but sends him back every time he
refuses to marry her (which is quite a few times). Somehow he gets out
of this alive though, back to his own time, and Jeannie agrees to stay
with him, unmarried ... Cute little episode that might feature
quite a few leaps of reason but that works because of a decent story
structure, nice and amusingly resolved situations, and the undeniable
on-screen chemistry between its two leads. Fun, actually!
