After a particularly nasty row with his son-in-law Doug (Kevin James),
in whose basement he lives, Arthur (Jerry Stiller) wants to repent and
gives him and his wife Carrie (Leah Remini) a new car for Christmas, since
their old one is on the verge of breaking down (part of what his row was
about). Thing is, he buys them a weird little car-like vehicle from
Luxembourg that's not really fit for American streets -so much so
that it borders suicide to drive it. Doug and Carrie are desperate, but
their friend Ricky suggests to park it in a back alley where it's sure to
be stolen and cash in the insurance. In the very last moment, when they
are already in an infamous backalley, where people are known to dump their
cars in order to get them stolen, Carrie has second thoughts though and
decides to not do it to not break her father's heart. This is when Ricky,
who was to be their getaway driver, is unable to start his car, and thus
he gets a ride home with Doug and Carrie while his car gets stolen, and
it's not even insured ... Doug and Carrie by Arthur an expensive and
engraved watch to show the gratitude for their car (they don't like) - but
when he is left totally unimpressed, they simply give the car to Ricky. Most
Christmas episodes of most series are cheesy -but luckily this one
isn't, it successfully avoids all schmaltzy bits and getting taken over by
the Christmas spirit, instead paints a much more realistic picture
of this strenous time of the year called Christmas holidays - and is very
funny at that.
