All Michael Lanyard the Lone Wolf (Louis Hayward) wanted to do in Las
Vegas was to have a little vacation and maybe date lovely brunette Dena
(Nancy Gates), but instead he is contacted by Steber (Paul Langton) from
San Francisco Homicide and asked if he could persuade murder
suspect Kohler (DeForest Kelley) to return to San Francisco and give
himself up to authorities so his name can be cleared. Of course, when Lanyard
pays Kohler a visit, Kohler is murdered, and Lanyard finds himself
being the perfect fall guy - too perfect even for the Las Vegas police, so
they let him walk. Lanyard is quick to put two and two (and maybe another
two) together and figures Dena was actually the wife (now widow) of
Kohler, and she and Steber (who was never with San Francisco homicide) are
lovers who wanted to have Kohler out of the picture and collect his life
insurance - and for that, they needed a fall guy, Lanyard. Lanyard though
lures the both of them into a trap and has them arrested after a chase
over Boulder Dam. Running a mere half an hour, this is not a
bad crime drama, featuring quite a few plottwists (even if not all of the
twists are totally plausible). Only the chase over Boulder Dam fails to
really excite and looks like a poor man's version of the finale of Niagara.
