A typical day on Long Beach, Long Island, NY: Nice weather, and yet a
guy, Todd (Nat Oldenburg) sits on a bench all depressed - mainly because
his wife has thrown him out. Enter Tyler (Henry Mandler), the "nice
guy" who promises to listen. Todd is so grateful that he has got
somebody to listen that he completely ignores the wrench Tyler has brough
- until it pretty much beats his head in ... Toddr awakes in a garage
all tied up, with two other tied up guys, apparently also Tyler's victims.
Tyler, it soon turns out, doesn't just want to torture and kill them, but
wants them to be part of his "family" - but what family means to
his deranged mind might be more torturous than just being tortured and
killed .. Now there are no two ways about noticing, The Long
Beach Wrench Killings is an amateur movie, the deficits on a purely
technical level are too obvious, and same goes for some of the acting ...
but that said, the hearts of director Nat Oldenburg and his team are
firmly in the right places, as they at least attempt to tell a witty story
here, and once they uniformly up their ante, they're probably destined for
something pretty good, too!
