Two cheerleaders (Yohanna Idha, Victoria Bloom) and two young guys
(Andreas Vaehi, Max Wallmo) drive through the middle of nowhere, USA
(despite the fact htat this film is Swedish and filmed in Sweden), when
they are suddenly and viciously attacked by a bunch of backwood retards,
who put their car out of commission, take them captives and torture and
rape them. But our heroes put up a fight (especially the guys), and while
the retards manage to kill one of the guys (Wallmo) and one of the girls
(Bloom), the survivors manage to defeat and slay them all in a very
violent finale. I'll admit this much, this film looks extremely
slick, especially considering its low budget - and that's actually part of
the film's problem, that it doesn't take any risks, stylistically. My
point is that Madness is pretty much survival horror/torture porn
by the numbers, and since this is a genre by definition doesn't allow
too many aberrations from its basic (narrative) formula, films of this kind
have to be creative elsewhere to remain memorable or even good. This is
not the case with Madness, there is nothing here that hasn't been
shown a hundred times before, and most of the times better, too, and the
lack of characters to care for or even good villains doesn't make the film
any better. And since all the suspense scenes are 100% predictable and the
gore scenes just more of the same old, this is probably the dullest piece
of survival horror you have ever seen, despite all of its violence.
