In Rome, photo journalist Mike (Charles Bronson) meets a former love at
a social function, but she now goes under a different name, Sharon Rogers
(Audrey Dalton), claims not to know him and seems terribly attached to her
uncle Jonathan (King Calder), who in turn goes out of his way not to have
his picture taken by Mike - without success. The whole story intrigues
Mike, so much so that he starts investigating Jonathan - and finds out he
is a professional con-man who has been in prison back in the USA numerous
times. Sharon asks Mike for a date and confesses she is his old flame
who stood him up many moons ago after all, but by now Mike is more
interested in Jonathan's shenanigans that involve the perfectly legal and
honest aquiring of an exorbitantly expensive pearl necklace for Sharon's
sister Mona (Elaine Edwards) - which Mike figures is still a clue because
the whole transaction was too legal for a con-man of Jonathan's
experience. And Mike is right, too, because with the help of Sharon,
Jonathan wants to sell the necklace back to the jeweller (Alberto Morin)
he has bought it from for four times the price, claiming it's a different
necklace he wants to buy as well - but make a getaway as soon as the
jeweller has paid up. Mike spoils the transaction, even if it breaks his
heart to see Sharon being arrested with all the others. Average
1950's crime drama, not bad as such but it could have done with a bit more
irony.
