Since Maya's (Nyka L'Esperance) mum has died, her dad (Jonezy
Something) has taken to drinking - and since he's perfectly aware that in
this state he can't look after a young girl, he decides to send her to her
grandparents for spring break. Unfortunately, at gramps' (Gerry
L'Esperance) workplace, some joker decides to hide a toxic bird in a
colleague's (Patrice L'Experance) sandwich, and as this things go, this
extra meat turns that man into a flesh eating and highly infectuous
zombie. And of course as events unfold, gramps and granny are zombified,
too. Having noone to take care of her, Maya walks home to daddy's place,
but the zombie epidemic has long overtaken her, and has claimed daddy,
too. But as meek as little Maya may look, she's definitely one to fight
back ... The first film by Nadine L'Esperance, who'd soon leave
her punk rock seal on the horror genre, does suffer from a few technical
issues (first and foremost sound issues), but it shows great love for
horror movies, especially from the trashy end of the spectrum, packing
many a cliché into a quirky, dead funny but sometimes even sad story,
with gory bits in all the right places, a little girl (the director's own
daughter) who seems to enjoy wielding a pair of big knives almost too
much, and an almost infectuous desire for filmmaking. Not perfect for
sure, but (if you're up for this sort of thing) perfectly enjoyable.
