Danny Ortega (John Saxon) might come from a dysfunctional family - his
parents are dead and his brother-in-law (Nesdon Booth) with whom and his
sister (Jacqueline May) he's staying doesn't appreciate him and his
artistic aspirations one bit - but he's a promising new prizefighter, and
his manager Mindy (George E.Stone) thinks highly of him. Then though one
day, Danny just breaks down and goes into a coma, and in hospital it's
discovered he's suffering from diabetes. Upon coming to again, Danny's
brother in law offers him little support (as was expected), and his sister
turns out to be too oppressed by her husband to do anything useful - but
Mindy does everything he can for the kid, even though he has long learned
that Danny will never again be able to box ... Medical drama
that succeeds in eductating the audience about diabetes - but apart from
that it has little to offer, script-wise: There seems to be a story in
this episode somewhere, that's also reasonably well set up, but at one
point, a major narrative thread - Danny's family conflict - is just let go
for a neglectable happy ending that solves next to nothing, plot-wise.
Granted, by far not the worst 1950's TV-drama ever, and pretty low in the
cheese department - but far from great as well.
