To keep his circus from going bancrupt, Mark Remington (Anthony Eisley)
travels to Africa, where hunter Jack Adams (Kent Taylor) has promised to
hunt down a giant ape for him. But once in Africa, Mark learns from Jack's
daughter April (Megan Timothy) that her father has disappeared into the
jungle six months ago and her animal trading business is on the verge of
bankrupcy, just like his circus. Out of desperation, Jack and April jon
forces, to go into the jungle and capture the giant ape and track down
April's father.
Soon enough, on an elevated, prehistoric plateau, they run across the
ape - Gorga - and have to realize he is a tad bigger than they had
expected, in fact he is King Kong-size
big ... which makes it rather difficult to carry him home through the
jungle - maybe, they didn't really think the whole thing through.
However, Gorga soon fights off a dinosaur - a plastic toy that is
probably the most pathetic dinosaur effect committed to film -, but during
the fight his hand catches a splinter, and bravely April pulls it out,
which makes her the ape's lifelong friend.
Soon after that, April and Mark are caught by a native tribe -
surprisingly enough, they are Indios - and prepared for sacrifice ... when
they meet April's father Jack, and the three of them decide to force
Jack's personal guard Kabula (Sheldon Lee) to show them a way off the
plateau and into freedom, and they even stumble upon a vast treasure when
getting away ...
However, as soonas they are off the plateau, a volcano erupts (in a
very underwhelming scene) and destroys the whole plateau and all its
prehistoric creatures with it.
However, Mark, April and Jack can't enjoy their freedom for long,
because soon they cross paths with Dan Morgan (Scott Brady), Jack and
April's main competitor in animal trading, who wants to a) kill them and
b) relieve them of the treasure ... but out of the deepest jungle comes
Gorga, April's friend, who squashes Morgan to death before disappearing
into the deepest jungle again.
And wouldn't you know it, int he end Mark and April have become a
couple ...
Incredibly cheaply done jungle flick with surprisingly unconvincing
gorillas and dinosaurs, bad back-projections and a highly derivative script (think King
Kong here, though that's not the only film The Mighty Gorga
steals from). Interestingly enough, the only real jungle animals we
get to see are in scenes shot in a zoo - that is actually supposed to be a
zoo - and in the cages of Remington's circus.
So yes, it is a bad film, but if you like bad films just for the fun
they are, you probably won't want to miss this one.
