Aaren (Clarisse Behr) is a farmwoman who has lost her husband only
recently, and while she's physically able to do the farmwork on her own,
she day-in day-out is reminded by everything how much she misses him, as
many of her daily routines just don't make sense (to her at least) doing
them on her own. And then her tractor seems to break down every other day,
so she calls in her helpful neighbour Jack (Willy Adkins) pretty much
constantly - so much so that he, who's drawn to Aaren anyways, thinks it
might be about more than just her tractor. Thing is, he might be right,
too - but at the same time, Aaren struggles to let go of her deceased
husband all the same ... Missing Peace is a very
touching little film ... because it doesn't try too hard to be, instead
tells its story via understatement including long and quiet shots, pauses
between dialogue lines, subtle performances by all involved, and a great
musical score that really fits the story without overpowering it. Well
worth a look!
