Jean (Joan Alcorn) finds herself a little overwhelmed looking after the
children (Nicola Bown, Jacob Fitz-Jones) of late, plus she wants to start
to work again, so she suggest hiring an au pair - something her husband
Bill (David Sumner) initially isn't crazy about, but he sure likes the
girl they hire, lovely French Monique (Sibylla Kay). Now Monique is very
open-minded, also and especially when it comes to sex, so it takes her no
time at all to seduce Bill - but that said, she's never set out to take
over Jean's role, so she does her best to get into Jean's panties as well
... and when she finally succeeds, the two women are caught by Bill. Now
Bill seeing his wife doing what he has done totally derails him, and now
it's up to Monique to reconcile the two spouses again - and what better
way to do this than a hot threesome? Now as a time capsule, Monique's
sure worth a look, as it couples a sensationalist topic of yesteryear
with bits of (topless) nudity and a rather interesting exploration of late
1960s/early 70s British mores ... but that's then really about it, as this
seems to be a move that fails to deliver on its promise, it's neither as
erotically charged or as sleazy as its premise might suggest, its story
proves to be pedestrian and lacking in depth - and frankly, while her
acting quite ok, Sibylla Kay lacks the sensuality her character demands,
and she doesn't dome across at all as French, starting with her total lack
of any accent. The rather jazzy score's very nice though. So in all, this
is somewhat amusing from today's point of view, but a cinematic
disappointment all the same.
