Because young Eddie (Butch Patrick) has been called "Shorty"
at school, he never wants to attend again, much to the dismay of his
parents Herman (Fred Gwynne) and Lily (Yvonne De Carlo). But Grandpa
promises Eddie a solution, and first wants to teach him how to fight dirty
- but Herman intervenes. So Grandpa gives the boy some growth serum.
Unfortunately all that has grown the next day is a beard in Eddie's 10
year old face, a beard that grows so rapidly shaving simply won't fix the
problem. Herman takes Eddie to the family doctor (Paul Lynde), but he only
gets more freaked out that he already has been by the Munster-family. In
the end it's Lily's soup however that does the trick and dissolves the
beard if dunked into it ... Storywise, this is not one of the
stronger episodes of the series, as it seems to be just some comedic
situations more or less about the same theme strung together rather than
an actually structured (let alone well-structured) narrative - but as with
most episodes of the series, the leads are all at their acting best and
bounce off magnificently well of one another, making this one just so much
fun to watch nevertheless.
