As Mickey (Craig Hamann) has just split up with his birthday, his best
friend Clarence (Quentin Tarantino) invites him over and hires callgirl
Misty (Crystal Shaw) over to give him a good time - but that only ends in
Mickey getting in a fight with her pimp (Al Harrell). Clarence later gets
a chance to have a longer talk with Misty himself, and the two become very
close ... to bad then that Clarence's ex stops by and catches them
together, and even worse that the ex's new violent and jealous boyfriend
is not far behind ... It's hard to pass final judgement on this
unfinished film (the rumour that the majority of the material was
destroyed in a fire has long been debunked, like so many other anecdotes
from Quentin Tarantino's early career), just one thing is very obvious:
Tarantino has developed his style full of quirky dialogues and rock'n'roll
and genre references very early on in his career - for better or worse:
For better because he knows how to write dialogue, for worse because all
the talk about Elvis and Eddie Cochran does get a bit tiresome in this
move, and the many genre references seem a bit too lifted from other
movies to come across as wholly original. Plus, Quentin Tarantino even
early on proves he's not much of an actor, just a guy who tries to look
cool a bit too desperately. Still worth a look for Tarantino- and cult
movie-afficionados - just don't expect greatness, this is an interesting
document rather than something closely resembling a masterpiece.
