It should have been a simple - and fun - camping trip for Sheila
(Holli Dillon), Tom (Mattia Rosellini) and their friends ... but then,
while Sheila and Tom have been making out in the woods, their friends have
disappeared, a mysterious axman, Ben (David White), pops up and urges them
to leave the woods to escape the serial killer Little Sister
(Saverio Percudani) - but there's a certain glint in Ben's eyes that makes
Sheila and Tom ignore him ... and not much later, they are attacked by
Little Sister, and while Sheila manages to escape, Tom is abducted by him,
and prepared to have the skin pulled off his face while alive (Little
Sister's speciality). Somehow, Sheila manages to rescue Tom before losing
him again, manages to rescue another friend of hers (Sofia Pauly) before
losing her, and eventually even savvy Ben is killed before her very eyes.
But Sheila's not one to run out of options quite a easily, and she
eventually even finds out all about Little Sister's past ... but the more
she finds out, the more she finds out how dangerous he is ... My
Little Sister is pretty much a slasher movie bared to the bones, there
are no unnecessary subplots to veer one off the main narrative, no
superfluous character arks with any of the supporting characters to pad
out screentime, and even dialogue is kept down to an essential minimum ...
and in this case, it actually works, too, as the filmmakers obviously know
where they were going (as in right at the jugular) and got their via
atmospheric filmmaking with the shocks in all the right spots, a really
gruesome looking killer with a gruesome backstory and a fittingly gruesome
hobby, very solid performances and even locations that fit the story to
the T. It might not be a perfect movie for everyone, but if you're a
slasher fan who likes one's shocker's without any "post-modern"
irony, then this is exactly what the doctor ordered!
