Paul (James Wire) picks up Rebecca (Samantha Mack) in a punk rock club
... or is she picking up him, actually? Anyways, when they arrive at the
place where she lives with her pets, she refuses to put out, and when he
tries to force himself onto her, she is quick to sever his hand, as if it
was the most normal thing in the world ... What you have to know about
Rebecca though is that as a kid (and played by Nyka L'Esperance) her dad
has never allowed her to own a pet, to the point that she murdered him.
These days though, she's cruising the streets and clubs looking for
"pet food" - and yep, you probably got the hint, but you'll
never guess the extent of her pet obsession ... Now I'll admit,
No Pets Allowed isn't a film to everyone's taste, it's loud, it's
bloody and at times it's crude ... but it's also lots of fun, a great mix
of dark humour, practical gore effects that are charmingly retro and
reminiscent of Herschell Gordon Lewis' gore epics, punk rock attitude, and
looks that replicate 1970s grindhouse cinema, all held together by a story
of the "what the fuck?"-variety. Totally worth a watch!
