Nosferato the vampire with a soft spot for pretty girls has been staked
in 19th century Budapest. But he returns to the land of the living in 20th
century Rio de Janeiro, a place he immediately takes to because of all the
bikini girls to seduce and drink blood from. Eventually though, he falls
for the wrog woman, a very sexy lady who asks him to take a look under the
hood of her broken down car, then she seduces him and sucks his blood.
This is too much for Nosferato, who takes the next plane back to the old
continent ... Over the years, Ivan Cardoso has proven himself
to be one of the most interesting and entertaining genre director, this
film, his first short though, hardly gives the audience a glimpse of his
later talent. Sure, the whole thing is handled in a light-footed manner,
and some isolated scenes, like Nosferato standing on the beach wearing
nothing but his cape and bathing trunks, are priceless, but as a whole,
this film seems more like a aimless collection of vampire scenes, done to
an incoherent selection of then current pop tunes (there is no live-sound
here). Still, the film might be interesting as evidence of a later master
of his craft in the making, but taken on its own merits, it's hardly worth
watching.
