Several months ago, Julie (Stephanie Rescoe) was tortured and raped by
DeStephano (Terry Leeser), a man who was later arrested and convicted, but
only has to serve a short term in jail. Julie on the other hand has been
in a terrible state ever since, so much so that she has been put on
medication and can hardly be left alone. That is until she decides to
assume a new identity, not instead of but additional to her real identity
as realtor, housewife and mother. Julie's other identity is that of
Bobbie, a woman from Florida who lives from credit card fraud and
uncovered checks, who dresses cheaply and lives in a cheap motel. But for
Julie, this is not just a game of dress-up, as Bobbie she even gets
herself a social security card and a driving license (thanks to some legal
loopholes), so rather officially, Bobbie does exist. Bobbie's favourite
hangout is a cheap dive run by a mobster (Matthew Sacks), and Julie
provides herself with all sorts of alibis to visit the bar as often as
possible, doing her best to become friends with the owner. And she makes
the barman (Steve Fromholz) fall for her, and they spend a night of sin
together. Then one day, the mobster owner of the bar introduces Julie to
his nephew who has just been released from prison - and it turns out to be
DeStephano, her rapist. In cold blood, Julie pulls a gun and shoots
DeStephano dead in the crowded bar. Then she makes her getaway, with the
barman not pulling the gun he keeps behind the counter because he feels
something for her. After that, Julie makes Bobbie disappear, and because
of all the preparation she has put into the whole affair, police assume
DeStephano's killing was a mob hit done by a professional hitwoman and
wouldn't even dream about questioning his poor victim Julie in that affair
... A nice thriller full of twists and turns that seems to not
make all that much sense for the longest time, but manages to tie all
narrative threads up and bring everything to a logical (if not as
unpredictable as intended) conclusion in the finale. That said, the film
probably could have done with a more inventive directorial effort and more
memorable actors, but even as it is, it's a very well-told tale.
