Ralph Cahill (James Craven) poses as a friend of a friend of Don (James
Anderson) and this way gets quite friendly with Don and Howard (Stanley
Andrews), the rich father of Don's fiancée Marian (June Vincent) - and
before you know it, he has them convinced that he knows about a German
inventor (Bernard Szold), who has developed a special pellet that, mixed
with water, can be a perfect substitute for gasoline - but he hesitates to
bring the pellet onto the market on his own, fearing the oil companies
would threaten him. Only Marian feels there's something wrong with Ralph,
but even she is sort of convinced by his claims after a while. It's only
when Howard and Don want to actually buy the formula for the pellet and
walk into a fake police raid where their money is confiscated that they
realize they have been taken for a ride. But Captain Braddock (Reed
Hadley) of the Racket Squad is able to sort everything out (even though
all of the action happens off-screen). This story has pretty
much the same problems as all the other episodes of Racket Squad:
You know what's happening from square one, who the good guys and who the
con men are, and that's not really helpful for the whole narrative. Add to
this a finale that's not even shown, and you aren's left with much, are
you?
