In the near future, all Japanese men have turned into brainless serial
rapists, pretty much all or a sudden and without an obvious reason. And if
they inseminate women, the women will die within minutes. Four women have
made it into a safe haven within Tokyo, where no men will gather: One's a
rape virgin who has been raped but not inseminated by the zombies, one's a
victim of spousal rape, one has been gangraped before the outbreak and has
turned lesbian, and one's just a loose cannon who has survived on her wits
- and because she has no qualms cutting of men's penises (the only way to
kill a rape zombie). Our heroines find out the place they are hiding at
belongs to an otaku (Japanese for super-fanboy), who's so pure in
admiration for cute manga girls that he's basically devoid of any sexual
longing - and thus has never turned into a rape zombie. Things soon take
a turn for the worse as the rape virgin turns out to be pregnant, North
Korea nukes Japan because of the rape zombie threat, Ms loose cannon
decides to bail and take otaku boy with her as a boytoy - but then she
manages to turn him on sexually and he becomes a rape zombie -, then the
rape zombies close in on our surviving heroines ... but it turns out rape
virgin's very quickly born child is the rape zombies' messiah! Now
Rape Zombie: Lust of the Dead is certainly a movie that keeps the
promise of its rather wild title: It is about zombies, it is about rape,
there are plenty of tits in there, there's plenty of rather sick (yet not
too graphic) sex, and there is plenty of non-PC humour. Thing is, there's
little beyond that to make Rape Zombie: Lust of the Dead more than
just a novelty item: The characters are flat, the jokes, the violence, the
sex are not more over-the-top in oh so many other films with less original
concepts, and the direction is rather impersonal and atmosphere-free. And
even if the action is rather well-staged, it doesn't go the step beyond to
become a cult item. Pity, the concept does have potential ... not enough
to become a sick classic perhaps, but enough to spawn a host of sequels
...
