Ron (Travis Fimmel) has just killed 2 people, and now he and his
girlfriend Dale (Teresa Palmer) want to hide out in a nice far-out mansion
for a while ... thing is though, the place is inhabited by Andy (Stephen
Moyer). Ron and Dale now decide to take him hostage and get the fuck away
... only there is one problem, because Andrew is agoraphobic and simply
cannot go outside - and after a while, the criminal duo has to realize
there is no way they can use him as a hostage. Ron wants to kill him right
away, but Dale holds him back - and ultimately, Andrew even suggests a way
to them to get their hands on his mother's trust fund - the only thing is,
Dale, an ex-stripper, has to pretend she's Andy's fiancée Gabrielle
(Alyssa McClelland), a posh upper-class lady - who has unfortunately left
Andy. In a desperate effort to save his life, Andy trains Dale to become
Gabrielle, and the two of them really start to develop feelings for one
another. Once Dale's out getting the money though, Ron plays mean tricks
on Andy and leaves him on no uncertain terms he's going to kill him - so
Andy suggests a deal: In exchange for his life, he will hand over evidence
to Ron that he has actually killed his own dad. Since Ron is not a killer for
the killing's sake, he agrees, but instead of handing over the evidence,
Andy makes a desperate effort to kill Ron - an effort that leads nowhere. Dale
comes back with the money, which is when Ron decides it's time to kill
Andy for good, but somehow, the feelings Andy and Dale have developed for
one another are strong enough that she tries to save his life -
which only leads to Ron trying to gas Dale in a car in the driveway right
in front of the mansion, but he's giving Andy a fair chance to save her -
easier said than done for someone suffering from agoraphobia ... In the
end, Andy manages to save Dale almost against all odds, and she saves his
life in return, killing Andy in a fight. But now, Dale has become Andy's
whore, as he threatens to inform the authorities should she not do what he
asks. And while he admits to not having killed his father after all (he's
still alive, actually), it's more than certain that he has actually offed
Gabrielle because she's been cheating on him ... A very
well-done, tense thriller, held together by tight pacing, a stringent
storyline, strong lead characters portrayed by a great principal cast, and
a very slick yet restrained directorial effort. Of course, on close
inspection one can't help but notice some plotholes and genre clichés
(worst of all, the good-girl-gone-bad who wants to do good by
shooting the man she loved), but while watching the film, this hardly
matters as the viewers are kept at the edge of their seats way too well to
bother about such details. Pretty good, actually.
