Chasing the next big story, journalist Erika Graesen (Alexis Moeller)
stumbles upon a classified space mission that left all four astronauts
dead, and once she starts digging, she and her partner in crime Jeffrey
(Chase McGuire) stumble upon the Good Earth Foundation, an
organisation allegedly for the betterment of humankind that's actually
tied up in human experiments and the like. Eventually, Erika tracks down
Good Earth employee Karren (Megan Le), who's also the ex mistress of the
Foundation's boss Baxter Aleks (Michael B. Silver), and Erika uses
everything she knows to make her talk and make her help her break into
Good Earth head offices to get some dirt - but things don't go as well as
planned as Karren is only a reluctant traitor, the files they steal are
worthless, and Baxter gets wind of the whole thing, beats up Karren before
firing her, then sets a hitman (Charley Rossman) on Erika's trail. But
Erika has also problems on the home front, as her boss (Peter Gardner)
threatens to fire her as he's less than happy with the story's progress or
lack thereof. Plus too many leads Erika follows end up with dead bodies at
the end, and she seems to implicating herself more and more rather than
exposing anything. And her modus operandi also gets those around her more
and more in the line of danger ... Now I have to admit, for a
conspiracy theory thriller, the actual conspiracy in this movie remains a
bit murky from beginning to end - but that hardly matters, as the film's
actually much more of a character piece, centered around its deeply
fallible protagonist Karren, whose ruthless pursuit of the truth threatens
to drive her over the cliff more than once ... and thus furnishes the film
with some excellent suspense pieces and a nice basic tension. And add to
that a very solid cast and a directorial effort with an emphasis on
atmosphere, and you've got a pretty good movie.
