Mary (Tania Serrano) is an American intern at a Spanish mental
hospital, and while still trying to settle in, the institutions head
Volkov (Antonio Mayans) already assigns her to her first patient to
handle, scary looking S (José Casas). But during their first session she
just zones out, has creepy visions, throws up, and ultimately asks to be
relieved for the night, to which Volkov reacts somewhat reserved, but her
colleague and best friend Virginia (Diana Lucena) is sympathetic - but
then she's called to the good doctor, who attacks her, but she manages to
ward him off and kill him. Mary in the meantime faces some terror of her
own, and finds out that S might actually be Satan, the institution a
Satanic cult, and she the reincarnation of Virgin Mary carrying Satan's
child. And from here on, everything goes on a downward spiral ... Ok,
narratively this movie doesn't have too much to offer, let alone anything
new - but on a visual and atmospheric level, the film's a pure
rollercoaster, presenting the audience with a wild trip through the
gruesome and creepy, the grotesque and surreal, and doing so in a
well-structured way to keep the audience at the edge of their seats.
