Arthur (Chris Durand) slaughters people. He slaughters people to eat
them. And that said, please don't think Arthur's your run-of-the-mill
sicko - because quite frankly, he isn't. But the economy's bad, mind you,
and he's married to Anne (Lisa Arcaro), a very demanding wife who likes to
throw dinner parties all the time, and meat prices have soared over recent
years. Now there isn't much love between Arthur and Anne anymore, but she
knows what she has got in him when it comes to being a barbecue chef ... Arthur
and Anne's usual dinner guests? They are kind of aware of what kind of
meat they are serving ... hey, the bad economy is equally demanding to all
of them, right? This party though, the new neighbours (Robert Borras,
Rue Garcia) have come over too, and they are a bit too curious about the
excellent meat ... Basically, Secret Family Recipe is a
very enjoyable macabre short that follows all the rules of a classic short
story - a good premise, fleshed out characters, and a twist ending - and
successfully brings an enjoyably light-footed approach to the gruesome and
at times very violent proceedings. Add to this a competent cast and a very
subtle directorial effort, and hey, you've got yourself a pretty nice
short from the darkly comedic side of the spectrum!
